Design8 is a Dutch-based distributor for Design and Visualization Software in Benelux. Design8 has over 20 years of
experience in selling, training and supporting 3D CAD software on both macOS and Windows to the Design Industry.
Simulation Driven Design as we see it, is the process where you simulate first, before you go into production. So you design your simulation, not simulating your design. When the design is finished, often it is too late to make big changes to it. We call Simulation Driven Design starting with the solution.
Ideally it starts with topology optimization. This is the process where you tell the software the natural constraints
about the part you want to design: where is it fixed, what forces act on the part and what is the material? The software will then generate a shape for you, a concept, that uses as little material as possible yet is strong enough to withstand the forces. This process is often called
Generative Design. The software for this is Altair Inspire.
Then you start your design, merely tracing the optimized shape. The CAD software for this is Altair Inspire Studio and is somewhat in the middle of Rhinoceros and SolidWorks: great freedom of form but accurate geometry
with construction history.
When you are happy with the design, see how it behaves during production. Altair has a broad range of
manufacturing simulation software titles, from extrusion to moulding to forming to 3D printing. You can find 3D printing simulation for SLM right inside of Altair Inspire.
If you want to get to know this work flow better and get free access to the softwareas a student, please see here all the information you need.
